Why can't teachers view student email addresses?

Due to COPPA and our privacy policy, we cannot show the email addresses for students under the age of 13.

When children under the age of 13 create accounts on Code.org, our site does not store the email address provided by those users in a retrievable format. Instead, we immediately create and store only a hashed version of the email address (which cannot be converted back into the original address), and use it only for the purposes of login and password recovery. Not even we as site administrators can check to see student email addresses.

However, for students/users that are over the age of 13 teachers are be able to see the students/users actual email address.
