Note: If you're having trouble with Clever syncing, check out this article on common issues with Clever sections, and how to resolve them!
If you log in to Code.org using Clever, you can use our Clever integration to sync a Clever classroom roster with your Code.org section! Your students will use Clever to log in to Code.org as well. To get started, follow these steps:
Step 1: Add Code.org to your Clever Dashboard
First, make sure Code.org is added to your Clever Dashboard by following our guide here. The process should take ~5-10 minutes.
Step 2: Log in to your Code.org account via Clever
You will need to make sure you can sign in to your Code.org account through Clever before you can sync.
To sign in with your Clever account, log in to your Clever Portal and click on the Code.org logo:
If you don’t know where to find your district's Clever Portal, you can search for your school by going to clever.com/login.
Note: If you click the 'Continue with Clever' button on the sign in page, and your Code.org account is not currently linked to your Clever account - this will result in a new account being created.
You can also link an existing Code.org account to your Clever Account. From the Account Settings page, scroll down to the "Manage Linked Accounts" table and click on the "Connect" button in the Clever row.
Follow the login prompts to authenticate your Clever account.
Step 3: Create a new section
Go to “My Dashboard” and click on the "Create a section" button. In the popup dialog, you will see the option to use Clever as the login type. Click this tile:
Step 4: Choose the Clever classroom you wish to sync from
Be sure to double check the name of the classroom you're selecting - sometimes teachers with similarly-named classrooms sync with the wrong one, and this makes it seem like they have the incorrect roster of students on Code.org. Once you have selected the right section, click the "Choose section" button to continue. At this point, the roster of students from the selected Clever classroom will be imported into the Code.org section you are creating.
Step 5: Edit section details, then hit “Save” to finish creating your section
Choose a course to assign to the section if you wish to do that right now. Review the rest of the section information, then hit “Save” to finish. Congrats! You've successfully created a section synced with Clever.
Step 6: Have your students log in via Clever
Students must log in via the Clever Portal and by clicking on the Code.org logo therein:
Please note that we strongly suggest choosing only one syncing option between Google Classroom and Clever - not both. Using both options can lead to duplicate accounts for students, which can lead to issues with seemingly lost progress because students have been using two accounts.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q&A: How do I re-sync my list of students?
If your Clever roster gets updated, you can sync your list of students in Code.org by going to your Code.org section, clicking on the “Manage students” tab, and hitting the button “Sync students from Clever.”
Q&A: How should my students be signing in?
Students in Clever-synced sections can either log in via Clever or through the sign in page.
They should either go to their Clever dashboard (or by going to clever.com/login and finding the name of their school) and click the Code.org logo.
Or - by going to the sign in page, clicking 'Continue with Clever' and then entering the name of their school or district:
Q&A: What if I sign in to my Code.org account with an email address and password, instead of my Clever account?
You can link an existing Code.org account to your Clever Account. From the Account Settings page, scroll down to the "Manage Linked Accounts" table and click on the "Connect" button in the Clever row (see above for a screenshot).
Q&A: What if I created a section without Clever and now want to sync my section with one of these tools?
The best way to deal with this situation is to create a new section from scratch using the instructions outlined in this article. As long as your students were already signing in with their Clever accounts, they will get to keep using the same Code.org account in your new section. Therefore, their progress should not be lost.
If your students are not already logging in with their Clever accounts, they can link their existing accounts to Clever using the same steps as described above ("What if I sign into my Code.org account with an email address...").
Q&A: How can my school or district admins set up admin accounts with Code.org or Clever / Google Classroom?
