Students can choose sprite costumes from the Costumes Library with thousands of image options. However, there are still instances when a student might not find the perfect costume for their idea.
Today, Sprite Lab allows students to upload their own sprite costume images! Students can also upload images to use as backgrounds.
How to Upload a Costume
From the "Costumes" tab select the "New Costume" button to open the Costumes Library, and select "Upload Image" to select an image from your computer.
It's important to be mindful of what you upload - do not upload any images that contain personal information, like your full name, address, phone number, email, etc. When you first upload an image, you'll receive the following warning: "Warning: projects with uploaded images can't be remixed or published to the gallery. Are you sure you want to continue?” Clicking the "Enable image upload" button will permanently disable sharing and remixing for the project.
How to Upload a Background
From the "Background" tab select the "New Background" button to open the Backgrounds Library, and select "Upload Image" to select an image from your computer.
The same warnings will appear for any background uploads as for costume uploads. Make sure students don't upload any personal identifiable information.
Sharing Restrictions
We take safety very seriously at Code.org, especially for our youngest learners. Sprite Lab is intended for students in 3rd grade and above. We ask all users not to upload images with personal information. To ensure inappropriate content is not shared broadly, any student Sprite Lab project that includes uploaded images may not be remixed or published to the gallery.
Once a student has agreed to these rules, remixing and publishing will be disabled for the project permanently.
To re-enable remixing or publishing, a student can click on the Version History button to revert to an earlier version of their project.
