In the Exploring Generative AI course, students have the opportunity to learn about how generative AI works and how to create with it. To support teachers in monitoring student progress, this tool provides access to the full chat history between students and the AI. Teachers can review student interactions, observe how the AI responds, report messages to code.org and ensure that students are achieving their lesson objectives as they explore and create with generative AI.
How to Access Student Chat History
- Navigate to the level page
In the teacher dashboard, click on the Exploring Generative AI course and view any level page. You should see the side teacher panel on the right side of each level. Open the panel to ensure you are View page as "Teacher” and pick a section. You will then see a list of all students in that are in the chosen section. If a student is not in a section, you will be unable to see their chat history.
- Click on a particular student
You can click on the student whose work and chat history you would like to review. You can navigate between students easily in the teacher panel.
- View student work and history
As a teacher you will be able to see the following sections on the page:
Student's Model Customizations: Teachers can see any model customizations students have made to their bot during the level. While you can view these customizations, teachers do not have the ability to modify these settings. This helps maintain the integrity of the student’s learning experience.
Student Chat history: In this section you can see the full student chat history. This includes conversations between the student and the AI, any flagged student inputs and any changes or updates made by the student. The system stores chat history for 90 days. After this period, chat logs are automatically deleted. If you need to retain any chat history for longer, please ensure to copy that chat before the 90-day period expires.
Test Student Model: Teachers can simulate a student interaction with the AI by chatting directly with the bot on the "Test student model" tab. This feature allows you to ensure the bot is aligned with lesson objectives. You can switch between this chat view and the student's chat history tab, allowing seamless validation of the AI’s effectiveness for different students.
4. Give us feedback!
We have a feature that allows teachers to provide valuable feedback on our AI chat moderation system. Please take a second while reviewing your students chats to give us feedback, your insights help us refine our safety filters and ensure they work effectively for all students.
- Review Flagged Messages: If a message has been automatically flagged as inappropriate, you can now review it and provide feedback on whether it was correctly or incorrectly flagged. This helps us improve the accuracy of our moderation system.
- Flag New Messages: If you come across a student message that was not flagged but you believe should have been, you can manually flag it as inappropriate. This helps us enhance our safety filter and better protect students.
Your feedback directly contributes to improving our AI moderation, making the chat experience safer and more effective for students.
