Overview
In both the AI Foundations and Exploring Generative AI courses, students have the opportunity to learn about how artificial intelligence works and how to create with it. To support teachers in monitoring student progress and ensuring safe interactions, AI Chat Lab provides access to the full chat history between students and the AI.
As a teacher, you can:
- Review all student interactions with the AI
- Monitor how the AI responds to student inputs
- Report inappropriate messages to Code.org
- Ensure students are achieving lesson objectives
- Provide feedback to improve our safety systems
How to Access Student Chat History
Step 1: Navigate to the desired level in the course
- Go to your teacher dashboard
- Click on either the AI Foundations or Exploring Generative AI course
- Select any level page that uses AI Chat Lab
- Look for the teacher panel on the right side of the page
Step 2: Open the teacher panel
- Open the teacher panel and ensure you're viewing the page as "Teacher"
- Select a section from the dropdown menu
- You'll see a list of all students in the chosen section
Important: Students must be enrolled in a section for you to view their chat history. If a student is not in a section, their chat history will not be accessible.
Step 3: Select a Student
Click on the student whose work and chat history you'd like to review. You can easily navigate between different students using the teacher panel.
Step 4: Review Student Activity
Once you've selected a student, you'll have access to several key sections:
What You Can View and Do
Student's Model Customizations
- View all customizations students have made to their AI bot during the level
- Monitor learning progress by seeing how students are experimenting with AI settings
- Note: You can view these customizations but cannot modify them, preserving the integrity of each student's learning experience
Student Chat History
- Complete conversation logs between the student and AI
- Flagged interactions that were automatically identified by our safety systems
- All updates and changes made by the student during their session
- 90-day retention: Chat history is stored for 90 days, then automatically deleted. For more information, check out our Artificial Intelligence Privacy Policy.
Pro Tip: If you need to retain specific chat history beyond 90 days, copy the relevant conversations before they expire.
Test Student Model
- Interactive testing: Chat directly with the student's customized AI bot
- Validate interactions: Ensure the student and bot conversation aligns with lesson objectives
- Compare experiences: Switch between your test chat and the student's actual chat history
- Quality assurance: Experience what students are experiencing with their AI interactions
Provide Feedback to Improve Safety
Your feedback is crucial for improving AI Chat Lab's safety and effectiveness. While reviewing student chats, please take advantage of the built-in feedback feature to help us refine our systems.
- Review Flagged Messages: If a message has been automatically flagged as inappropriate, you can review it and provide feedback on whether it was correctly or incorrectly flagged. This helps us improve the accuracy of our moderation system.
- Flag Additional Messages: If you discover messages that should have been flagged but weren't, you can manually flag it as inappropriate. This helps us enhance our safety filter and better protect students.
Your feedback directly contributes to improving our AI moderation systems, making the chat experience safer and more effective for students.
