How do I change a section's course or unit assignment?
You can change which course or unit is assigned to a class section in three different places:
From the Settings page (recommended if you're updating many class sections to different courses or units)
From the Course Catalog (recommended if you're updating many class sections to the same course or unit)
From the Course page for the unit you want to assign
As your class moves through the curriculum during the school year, keeping your section’s course/unit assignment up to date is helpful for two reasons:
It ensures that your students will start in the right place when they sign in. Students in a class section will always start in that section’s assigned course or unit when they sign in. Only one course or unit can be assigned to a class section at a time, but students can continue to access other courses or units by visiting their homepage (studio.code.org/home) once they sign in.
It makes it easier for you to view a class section's most recent progress in the Teacher Dashboard. When you view progress for a class section in the Teacher Dashboard, each class section will default to showing progress data for the course or unit they have currently assigned. You can still access progress from other courses and units through the “Lessons in” dropdown menu in the progress view.
Option 1: Updating course or unit assignment from the Settings page
This option is recommended if you need to update multiple class sections to different courses or units at the same time.
From your list of class sections on the teacher homepage, click the three dots menu in the upper right corner of a class section card and choose “Section settings”.
This will take you to the Settings page for that class section, where you can edit the settings and change the assigned course or unit for that class section. Make sure you take note of which version of a course you’re assigning and remember to click the purple "Save" button at the bottom of the page when you're finished making changes.
*If there is only one version of a course, you will not see an option to choose the version.
To edit the course or unit assignment for a different class section, use the "Class Sections" dropdown in the upper left corner of the page to choose a new class section.
Option 2: Updating course or unit assignment from the Course Catalog
This option is recommended if you need to update multiple class sections to the same course or unit at the same time.
Click on “Course Catalog” in the navigation bar at the top of the page
Find the card for the course you want to assign and click the purple "Assign" button.
Use the pop-up window to change which class sections the course or unit is assigned to. Clicking the box next to each class section's name will assign or unassign the course or unit for that class section. A blue checkmark indicates the course or unit is currently assigned to that class section. When you're finished making changes, click the purple "Confirm section assignments" button to save and confirm the changes.
Option 3: Updating course or unit assignment from the Course page
If you want to explore a course in the Course Catalog further before assigning it or if you already have the course or unit assigned to one of your class sections, you can update course and unit assignments from the Course page on the teacher dashboard.
Navigate to the Course page
If you have the course or unit assigned to a class section already, you can access the Course page from your homepage. Open the “Jump to” dropdown menu on the class section card and select the course or unit. This will take you to the Course page for that course or unit.
If you do not have the course or unit assigned already, you can access the Course page through the Course Catalog. Navigate to the Course Catalog using the navigation bar at the top of the page, then find the card for the course you want to assign and click the “Quick View” button. An expanded card will open to show you additional details about the course. To view the Course page for that course, click the “See curriculum details” button in the lower left-hand corner of the expanded card.
On the Course page, click the purple "Assign to sections" button to change assignments for the course or unit you're viewing.
