Note: This article is intended for adding students to a class section that uses a section code, and is not relevant to Google Classroom, Clever, Canvas, or Schoology sections.
If your students already have a Code.org account, you can add students to your class section without creating a new account for them.
Note: You will need to have already created your class section to complete the following steps.
Step 1: Have students sign into their previously created Code.org account
Ask students to sign in using the login method used to create their account (i.e. personal email, secret words, picture passwords, or SSO (single sign-on) like Google, Microsoft, Facebook, or Clever).
Students can sign in by clicking the "Sign In" button in the upper right corner of Code.org. If students see their name in the upper right corner rather than "Sign In", this means they are already signed in.
Tip: If your students cannot remember their password, they can request a reset password link from the Code.org Sign In page (learn more about resetting passwords).
Step 2: Find your section join code
You can find your six-character section code in two places:
-
On your teacher homepage, the six-character section code is shown below the name of the class section on the cards. Clicking on the section code will copy it.
-
On the Roster page, the six-character section code is shown in the top right corner of the page. Clicking on the section code will copy it.
Step 3: Have students join your class section
Once your students have signed in, they can join your class section in one of two ways:
-
Visit Code.org/join and enter the six-character section code of the class section you're created.
- Students can scroll to the bottom of their homepage and enter the six-character section code there.
Step 4: Ensure that students have joined your class section
You can check to see if students have joined your class section on the Roster page for that class section. To access the Roster page from your teacher homepage, find the class card for the class section you want to review. Click the three-dots menu in the upper right corner of the card and choose "Roster" from the dropdown menu. On the Roster page, you will see a list of the students who have joined your class section.
Step 5: Get started with Code.org!
Once your students have successfully signed in, they will be taken to one of two places:
- If you've assigned a course or unit to the class section, students will be taken to that material once they join the class section. Learn more about assigning work to your students.
- If you haven't assigned a course or unit to the class section yet, students will be taken to their homepage once they join the class section and they can pick an activity from there.
