We're excited to introduce a streamlined experience for monitoring student progress, designed with educator feedback! With the new progress view, you'll find enhanced usability and clearer icons, in addition to highlighting opportunities for assessment and simplifying the evaluation of student work.
Let's explore it together!
Accessing the New Progress View
- Log in to your Code.org teacher account.
- Navigate to the progress view for any of your sections.
- Click on the "Try out new progress view (beta)" button in the top-right corner of your dashboard.
- At any time, you can switch back to the old progress view by clicking on “Switch to old progress view” in the same location.
What's New?
Enhanced Usability
- Faster, faster! We’ve improved (and are continuing to optimize) load times for the progress view, ensuring quick access to what matters to you
-
Collapsible icon key: A new icon key at the top of the page shows the relevant icons within the progress table, while being collapsible to stay out of your way when you don’t need it. You’ll find further details on each icon by clicking on ‘More Details.’
- More space and better scrolling: The new progress table makes the most of your screen size and displays more progress data than before, while making it easier to scroll in all directions.
-
New table layout: We’ve focused on what’s important with a cleaner interface
- Student names are displayed in a separate leftmost column, with options to sort by display name or family name.
- Lesson and level numbers are displayed at the top; hover over a lesson number to see the lesson title.
- Improved level view: Click on a lesson column to smoothly expand into a level-by-level view. If you leave the page and come back, we’ll remember where you left off with those lessons expanded!
Better support for teacher workflows
-
Spotlighted assessment opportunities: Code.org recommends that teachers review student work on certain levels that best capture how well students understand the material. These are marked with a star in the level header.
- Coding levels that students have submitted and are ready for your review are marked by a purple triangle in the top right corner of a level cell.
-
Easier review of student work:
- Keep track of which students you’ve told to keep working, marked by a circular arrow in the middle of a level cell
- Keep track of which students you’ve left written feedback for, marked by a solid black triangle in the top right corner of a level cell
-
Easier viewing of time spent and last-updated information
- Like in the old progress view, you can click on the down arrow next to a student's name to see how much time they've spent on a level and when they last updated it.
- In the new progress view, you can easily expand all or collapse all student rows by clicking on the utility menu to the right of the lesson dropdown.
