What are the benefits of adding co-teachers on Code.org?

Co-teachers can do the same tasks as the primary teacher. The only difference between the primary teacher and a co-teacher is that a co-teacher cannot remove the primary teacher from the class section.

How do I add co-teachers?

Follow these steps to add co-teachers to a class section you manage.

1. Sign in to your Code.org teacher account. You can do this directly from https://studio.code.org/users/sign_in, or by going to code.org and clicking on the “Sign in” button at the top right.
2. Create a class section or edit an existing class section’s details.
    
   • To set up a new class section, click on the “New class section” button at the top of the teacher homepage (see this article for more information on how to create a class section).
     
     
      
   • To edit an existing class section's details, locate the card for that class section on your teacher homepage. Click the three-dots menu in the upper right-hand corner of the card, then choose "Section settings" from the dropdown menu options.
     
     
      
3. Scroll down to the “Add co-teachers” heading and click on it to expand it.
   
   
    
4. Enter the email address associated with your fellow instructor’s Code.org account into the text box. Co-teachers must already have a Code.org teacher account in order to be invited. Click the “Add co-teacher” button in order to queue up an invitation to that teacher.
5. Click the “Save” button at the bottom right to save your changes.
6. Ask the instructor you’ve invited to log in to their Code.org account. They should be able to see your invitation on their teacher dashboard and click “Accept” to accept it.
   
   
    
7. After the invitation has been sent, you will be able to see the co-teacher listed under the “Add Co-teachers” heading on the Section Settings page. If that have accepted the invitation, their status will say "Accepted". If their status says "Pending", that means the invitation has been sent, but the co-teacher has not accepted it yet.
   
   

How do I become a co-teacher?

Once the primary teacher of the class section has invited you (see above), you can follow these steps to accept their invitation.

1. Sign in to your Code.org teacher account.
2. This will take you to your teacher homepage. Look for a banner with an invitation at the top of the page.
3. Click “Accept” on the invitation banner.

Can co-teachers do the same things that I can?

Yes! Co-teachers have the same capabilities as you on their teacher dashboard, including:

• Edit section details
• Assign curriculum
• Invite other co-teachers if the section has fewer than five
• View all pages with info about the class section (Progress, Assessments, Text Responses, Stats, Settings)
• Add/remove/modify students in the class section
• View and edit secret picture, secret word, and personal passwords for students in the class section
• Print login cards
• Print certificates
• Export all feedback
• View student work and the teacher panel
• Write feedback on student programming levels*
• Archive the section

*Co-teachers must still be verified teachers in order to leave feedback in CSD, CSP, and CSA. See this support article on how to become a verified teacher.

Why can’t I have more than five co-teachers?

For now, based on teacher input, we’ve limited the number of co-teachers that can be added to a single class section for security reasons. However, we may consider increasing that number in the future. Please consider submitting your feedback on our support site with a description of your situation and how many co-teachers you’d like to be able to have in your class section.

When I enter my co-teacher’s email address, it says that it could not find that email address. Why is that?

This may be due to a typo in the email address you entered. If you are sure the email address is spelled correctly, you will see this error if your co-teacher doesn’t have a Code.org teacher account yet. They will need to sign up for one first before they can receive an invitation from you. See this support article on how to sign up for a teacher account.

I sent my co-teacher an invitation, but it still says pending…what should I do?

Your co-teacher must log in to their teacher account and click “accept” on the invitation that appears on their teacher dashboard. The invitation should appear above their classroom sections.

My co-teacher invitation says it was declined. How can I resend the invitation?

If you believe your invitation was declined in error, you can resend the invitation. Simply click the trash can icon in the declined invitation’s row, then re-enter the email address associated with your fellow instructor’s Code.org teacher account.

How do I remove a co-teacher?

From the Section Settings page, expand the “Add Co-teachers” section, then click on the trash can icon next to the co-teacher’s name in the table.

Who can remove co-teachers?

You and any of your co-teachers can remove other co-teachers. You, the main teacher, cannot be removed from the class section.

Can I add co-teachers to Google Classroom and/or Clever sections?

Yes, you can add co-teachers to your Google Classroom and Clever class sections; however, they will not be able to sync the student roster unless they are also functional co-teachers on the Google or Clever side. Unconnected teachers will still be able to see student progress and work and manage section settings, but they will not be able to sync the student roster.

If I archive or delete my section, will the co-teachers in it still have access to it?

No, archiving or deleting a class section will also archive it or delete it for the co-teachers as well. However, co-teachers can unarchive the class section.

Can I make one of my co-teachers the primary teacher or transfer ownership of my class section to one of my co-teachers?

No, we do not support transferring class section ownership to co-teachers at this time.

Do my co-teachers need to be verified teachers?

Co-teachers must also become verified teachers if they want access to certain teacher-only features, such as answer keys, sample solutions, and the teacher feedback feature in CSD, CSP, and CSA. See this support article on how to get verified.

Can I see which co-teacher made changes to my class section?

No, at this time, we do not keep a log of who made changes to the class section.

Can students see which teacher left feedback for them?

No, at this time, students can only see that a teacher left feedback on their programming work, not which one.
